FAQ

I have an Laser Interceptor dual system in my car and want to upgrade to a quad system. Can I purchase additional sensors for this purpose?
Yes, the dual system is fully upgradeable and additional sensors can be purchased from our site, and simply plugged into your existing CPU.

What is the range of the parking sensor, at what distance will it react to the obstruction?
Parking sensor range to an obstruction can vary from 0 to 3 meters, this can be adjusted to your preference by using the software. Remember, Laser Interceptor uses infra-red to detect obstacles so detection range will depend on how reflective the surface of the obstacle is. Parking range will be longer when the obstacle is white or is reflective, and could be much shorter if the obstacle is dark. If the obstacle is made of glass, Laser Interceptor will not detect it, therefore you should rely on your personal judgment at all times.

Laser Interceptor is classified as a Class 1M laser product, in what conditions is it safe for use?
The Laser Interceptor is tested and classified as Class 1M laser product in accordance to European and International Eye safety regulations EN 60825-1:2001 and IEC 60825-1:2001, ed. 1.2.
Class 1M Laser means that the product emits a large diameter beam and is safe for use under all reasonably-anticipated conditions of use unless optical instruments are used. However, it is best to avoid staring at the sensor from a short distance when it's powered on and never look directly at the sensor with optical instruments like magnifiers.

Can Laser Interceptor interfere with other laser equipment?
Even though it is unlikely, the Laser Interceptor emitted laser signals could possibly cause interference to other laser equipment that operates on the same 905 nm frequency, such as various laser distance and measuring equipment. If such a situation were to occur, the LI will alert you of a possible problem, and turn itself off, conforming to the ACMA regulations

Are both Sensor and Control Box water resistant?

While the sensor is water submerged resistant and intended to be installed on the outside of the vehicle, the control box isn't. It’s connections must be made and kept in a dry area, preferably the passenger cabin..

My Laser Interceptor gives a constant parking sensor warning, even when there is no obstacle in front. Is it faulty?
Check again if there is something in front of the sensor. If this is your first use after installation check for proper sensor installation (the sensor might be mounted too deep behind a tight grille). Also check for dirt on the sensor lens and clean if necessary.

Why is Laser Interceptor better then the earlier model and it's competitors?

  • It uses a new epoxy glue that does not allow water ingress like the very first model released in 2007.
  • It has smaller sensor heads and is easier to install.
  • It has voice alerts.
  • It has free downloadable software updates.
  • It will automatically turn itself off it it detects a possible interference with another device operating on the same (license free) 904nm frequency.
  • It has patented State of the art laser receiver controlled by a dedicated microcontroller.
  • The unit's memory has been doubled allowing for new program features to be added

Has Laser Interceptor been tested to comply to International and EU regulations?

Directive 89/336/EEC Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
Emissions: EN61000-6-3:2001+A11:2004 (IEC 61000-6-3:1996)
Immunity: EN61000-6-1:2001 (IEC 61000-6-1:1997)
Homologation: Directive 2004/104/EC, 2005/49/EC, 2005/83/EC
Laser Class: IEC 60825-1, edition 2.0 (2007-03)
RoHS: Directive 2002/95/EC, 2005/618/EC, 2005/717/EC, and others

I own a radar detector that is capable of detecting police cars and speed cameras. Will this unit do the same?

No, the laser interceptor cannot detect police cars, red light cameras or Multanova speed cameras.

Do laser systems work best in full daylight or at night?
Infrared light is also part of the normal spectrum of sunlight. The brighter the day, the more infrared light is scattered about which Laser Interceptor circuitry needs to compete with. It is therefore true that all laser equipment (even the poor performers) will work best in lower light conditions due to the absence of the sun. That said, the Laser Interceptor will continue to work effectively in daylight.

Can I use the Laser Interceptor System on a motorcycle?
Yes, you can use Laser Interceptor on a motorcycle. The only thing you need to remember is that the CPU is not water proof, so it must be enclosed in a water tight enclosure to avoid water damage and warranty problems.

When I buy my Laser Interceptor, can I have it installed by a professional installer? Do you have a list of preferred installers in Australia?
Yes, we have a list of preferred installers in every state of Australia. It's very important to mount all transponders carefully since the transmitting and receiving infra-red laser beam will not pass through any objects. It is essential that all transponders have a clear and unobstructed view of the road, pointing straight ahead, mounted horizontal and parallel to the road surface and driving direction. Our preferred installers understand these technical issues that need to be addressed with Laser Interceptor installations. Our preferred installers guarantee their workmanship so you can rest assured that the job is done right!

I want to send a fax order. What information is required and will you provide a GST tax invoice?
Sending a fax or postal order is simple. Use the online ordering system and at the end of the process when it comes time to make payment, select "Mail/Fax Order". The order form is automatically produced including GST and shipping. Print out the form and them post or fax it to us with your cheque, credit card details or bank transfer. (For bank transfers, please include the invoice number from the form.)

What other methods of payment do you accept other than credit card payments?
You can also pay by PayPal by selecting "Pay with PayPal" using the Web shop shopping cart. If you like, you can also send your order to us by printing out the shopping cart automatically generated form at then end of the purchase process. Just select "Fax Order/Print Order" at the end of the shopping cart process. You can then send your payment to us by cheque, Australia Post Money Order, or by using a direct banking transfer. (The direct banking transfer information is on the fax/post form that you print at the end of the shopping cart process.)
